The Northern Racing College From
April 2000 I have been undertaking a role on behalf of the Northern
Racing College to promote racing as a serious career option for
teenagers. I am presently visiting schools mainly in the Midlands and
Northern England. The initiative behind this stems from the shortage of stable staff which is a constant headache for many trainers. I
feel I got plenty of out of racing, first as a jockey and then as a
trainer, and am delighted if by taking part in this scheme I can give
something back. I have also had several meetings with career
officers and the idea is that if I can stimulate interest in racing
among school leavers, many of them will attend a "taster" day at the
Northern Racing College, after which the completion of a 10 week course
qualifies them for a job in a racing stable. If you are interested in a career in racing or would like me to visit your school, please contact the Northern Racing College: * Telephone 01302 861000 * Email gale@nrcdonc.demon.co.uk * Visit their website www.northernracingcollege.co.uk
