Queen greets an old favourite They
greeted each other like old friends. When the Queen welcomed Aldaniti
to London yesterday, the former Grand National champion whinnied as if
in delight. He and jockey Bob Champion arrived at the Royal Mews
after a 600-mile journey from Edinburgh to raise money for cancer
research. The pair led a team of riders - including polo star Peter
Grace and his four daughters - on a 24-day trek from Holyroodhouse. Champion,
who beat cancer to ride Aldaniti to victory in the 1981 Grand National,
hopes to raise £1 million for a national cancer research centre at the
Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton, Surrey. Daily Mail (6th August 1996)
